My Birthday @ Fish Spa

Dear & I took leave on my birthday… We went to try out the fish spa café @ Marina Square… So exciting cos this is the 1st time we trying out this new spa…

Fish spa is the use of small little fish that nibble on your dead skin cells by scrapping their tiny mouths against your skin, sort of like exfoliation, the natural way. The fishes used are Garra rufa also known by multiple common names such as Kangal fish, Doctor fish or Reddish log suckers.

Doctor fishes originate from the Middle East, in rivers and springs of Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Turkey and Syria. They are 9-12cm bottom-dwelling fishes that live in waters ranging from 15oC-28oC. Surprising, they are able to live in thermal waters of 37oC as well. They generally feed on algae at the bottom of the river beds or zoo plankton, microscopic organisms that thrive in rivers and feed on even smaller microscopic organisms.
They are a much researched species of fish in Turkey and are postulated to aid in healing of skin diseases and disorders, one of which is psoriasis1-3, where a cure is yet to be found. This fish supposedly simultaneously releases some unknown enzymatic secretion and dithranol, a component of dermatological creams to enhance the skin condition by normalizing its pH and helps new skin cells regenerate a little faster than usual.

@ Fish Spa, there is a total of 4 pools… Pool 1 has the smallest fish, Pool 2 has the medium size fish, Pool 3 has the biggest fish and Pool 4 has the attacking fish…

Dear went into Pool 3 and got s small scare… It was scary and itchy… That was before the girl in charge came and explained to us about the Pool… After realizing that Pool 3 was one of the expert pool, dear came out immediately… In the end, we started out with Pool 1, before moving on to Pool 2… I never dare to try Pool 3 or Pool 4… it’s simply too scary for me…

As for the experience, it was totally good… sole of the foot is very itchy at first but the feeling will be gone after a while…Like it quite a lotz… Our legs were smoother… and the dry skin at the sole of our feet seemed to have been completely eaten up by our Doctor Fish…After the fish spa, we went on for body massage… only one word for the whole experience… SHIOK…

After the spa, we went to meet my sis and we had dinner at Crystal Jade Kitchen… Yummy… we also spotted one of the F1 car in front of Marriot Hotel… So looking forward to the night race… Totally enjoyed my special day =P
