School Bus or School Bus Not?
This is the 3rd year my bunny is taking a school bus to school. No major hipcups in the 1st 2 years. In fact, the bus driver uncles are nice and the bus attendant aunites are caring towards my bunny. My bunny also likes and respects them alot.
But... things are not the same anymore...
2013, 30th Dec...
The school posted a statement on FB saying the current school bus operator is asking for a ridiculous price hike and hence they are going to change an operator. The school also advised us that the new bus operator will contact us within the next 2 days, latest by 1st Jan 2014 so that school can start without fail on 2nd Jan...
2014, 1st Jan... 10pm at night
We received news the day before from someone claiming to be a bus driver with regards to the drop off timing for my bunny. I asked him about the pick up schedule but he told me it will be a different driver hence the new driver will contact me shortly. The day before school commence, at 10pm, no news from either the bus driver or the bus operator. Checked my FB accounts and realised that lots of parents in same scenarios as me.
The school posted another statement on FB saying if details on pick up is not received, parents have 2 options: To send the kids to school themselves, or let the kids miss school on both 2nd and 3rd and only resume school on 6th when the logistics issue is settled... Huh!
Dear and I concluded... We will let the big bunny skipped school on Thu and Fri then...
2014, 2nd Jan... 2 hours before school commence
I received a call from someone claiming to be a bus driver who is in charge of pick up..
Bus uncle: "Hello.. Mrs Lim, is your boy going to school today?"
Me: "Well, that depends on whether he got transportation to school anot! No one called me before... But if you picking him up, I will let him attend school"
Bus uncle: "Okie, I will come pick your boy up. In one hour time. To wait at the road side."
Me: "Okie..."
So off we prepare and pack our big bunny to school..
Meanwhile, while nearing school dismissal times, I saw from FB that some parents are commenting that their kids in the morning session haven't reach home yet. Some were as late as 4 to 5 hours. When called the bus operator, the kids' name are on the list but they are physically not there. Panic parents went around frantically looking for their kids, only to discover that they had either boarded the wrong bus or they are detained in school as they had miss their appointed bus.
Naturally, I was worried hence I decided to be a P.I for an hour.... to go to school, wait for my boy to be dismissed and trailed behind him and his school bus until he successfully reached home.
End of the day, my bunny made it successfully to and from school via the correct school bus and quite on schedules (only +- 15minutes). Lucky us.
That same night, the school issued another statement. School close for all on Friday, 3rd for them to assess what went wrong and to go through the logistics again. So drama.
My big bunny is naturally very happy about this unplanned holiday.
2014, 4th Jan... at night...
I received a call from the school, informing us that school will not commence till 8th, Wed. The school had reviewed the school bus issue and had decided to revert back to the old school bus operator. At the same time, the school bus operator had also accepted to lower the % of bus fare hike for the parents.
2014, 8th Jan...
My bunny went to school... All is well with the school bus... Same drivers as the previous year... On time buses...
2014, 15th Jan...
All went well with the school bus schedule... But parents were only informed by the school that there will be a price hike of absolute amount of $10-$15 per kid... Exact school fee payable still unknown...
That same evening, my bunny brought home his school bus card... Price hike for the journey is at $15, which is almost 16% from prior year.. sigh.. so much..
To conclude...
Nothing for me to complain about as the price hike is within the range advised by the school and my bunny does go to school and reach home on time and safely.. But I guessed I am one of the lucky parent... Read from FB that some parents received price hike as much as $30 to $40, which is way higher than what the school communicated and it came to an extend that some parents decided to fetch their kids to and from school...
If you ask me, the school bus fare is indeed expensive but this is something that we had cater for in our budget and is still within the range communicated by the school... And we really like how our bunny had become more independent... he had also enjoyed the bus ride alot... Him taking the school bus can also free up lots of time for my in-laws with the logistics...
So to conclude.. why not... and not why i should not... =)
But... things are not the same anymore...

Same Playgroup… But 3 Years Apart…
1st Day @ Schools
Both little bunnies started school on 02 Jan 2014...
In K1 this year, this is the 3rd year my big bunny will be attending his current sch... Smartly dressed in his sch uniform, he happily boarded the sch bus with no tears unlike the first 2 years... my bunny had indeed grown up...
It is however a slightly different story for my little bunny.
In playgroup this year, my little bunny is going off to school for the 1st time of his life. It is the same playgroup that the bigger brother used to attend, with nice school environment and nice teachers.
Big bunny and I brought our little brother to school on the 1st day. We followed him into the class for about 10minutes, and with him engrossed in the toys in the classroom, big bunny and I sneaked out of the room one by one. As separation anxiety kicked in, I can hear my little bunny at the background crying and shouting "Mummy, Mummy..."
Nonetheless, I still left to send my big bunny back home for his school bus and never came back till class ended. Luckily for the teachers' update midway through the class to tell me that little bunny had stopped crying but was instead very clingy to the teacher. When I picked him up after 2 hours, his tears started to roll again when he saw me. Really heart pain, but I guessed he just had to get used to school like his big brother =D

2012 2nd Half of Year Recapped
Jul 2012
Changed my IC finally... after receiving a warning letter...opps...
Kaden started 2 separate enrichment classes…
English Speech & Drama class @ Little Explorers, Hougang Green
Kaden used to attend playgroup at little explorers and he simply loved all the teachers there. This time round, when he went there for enrichment class, he was super happy. His English had also improved significantly after attending the classes. Daddy & mummy simply love to see how much Kaden had enjoyed himself at school.
Aikido class @ Aikido Forest, Serangoon Garden Branch
We brought Kaden for his 1st movie… Ice Age 4… It was quite a success, though he was asking lots of questions about the show and he even dozed off during the last bit of the movie… But he managed to sit still while watching the show and didn’t scream or shout to say he want to get out of the theatre. He was instead very fascinated by the music so much that till date, he even remembers the lyrics and the dance move…
Daddy decided to make a career switch this year. He spent his last month at the bank, having farewell lunches and dinners with all his beloved colleagues whom he had worked with for the past 9 years. Though sad, for having to part with a good working team, he reckons he must move on for better career progression. But no worries, 天下没有不散的宴席.
Aug 2012
Daddy was enjoying some garden leaves in early Aug, so off we went for a stay vacation at RWS from 1st to 4th Aug. We booked 2 family deluxe rooms at Festive Hotels. My in-laws family and the maid took 1 room, while we took the other one, with my mum and sister dropping by to bunk in with us for the 1st night. We had an enjoyable time at Sentosa.
Reyes visited Universal Studios for the 1st time although I don’t think he know what is going on. Kaden went on almost all the rides that his height can allow him to. Conclusion… we loved USS. We are even exploring the idea of taking up a membership for it.
Dear started work at the new bank in August. 1st 2 months were honeymoon period for him as it was training months. Good and bad… but I was happy… This was because his training site is at Changi Business Park and he can fetch me off work… ke ke ke
We were very adventurous being 2nd time parents. This time, we brought Kaden & Reyes out for lunch, the 1st with the house of Js at a Japanese restaurant at Bishan. The older kids had a happy time while Reyes spent most of his time napping.
In August, we brought Kaden to attend his 1st ice cream making session, together with Jovin & Jovan. He transformed into a little chef and ate up all the ice cream that he made. He sure had a fun time with Jovin & Jovan. Together with 4 kids, we settled for dinner at Ang Mo Kio, New York New York. Reyes was happily napping away again while the 3 older kids had fun fighting over eating baked rice and making funny faces.
I myself had a personal outing too… my AJC classmates gathering at Rendezvous Hotel… 1998, I entered into Junior College and 14 years later in 2012, we were still in contact to meet up for high tea… The most wonderful thing is all of us didn’t really age that much… It‘s an wonderful afternoon spent… Some ME time and some good catch up with old friends…
Sep 2012
Sep is a birthday month as both Daddy and myself are Sep babies… Spent our birthdays as 2nd time parents… Mixed emotions but aren’t I glad that we had Kaden and Reyes…
Being the month of the lantern festival, I brought the boys to Chinese Garden as well as the lantern festival carnival at RC Serangoon… It was Reyes’ 1st participation… Although he doesn’t know how to hold a lantern yet, he is definitely happy in looking at all the lights… Happy boys & joyous festival…
Kaden participated in his 1st ever school concert. It was held at Singapore Conference Hall on 28th Oct… We left Reyes with my mum and we, with my in-laws attended the concert.. Though we were seated in the last few rows of the hall, we could clearly see Kaden when he appeared on stage… I never ever would have thought my Kaden could perform on stage… Really happy!!! I even bought all the photos that has Kaden in it for the concert even though he might not be in the lead or he is not looking at the camera and the fact that the photos are priced at $1.50 per piece and the size is only 4R... After all, this is Kaden’s 1st and I would want him to go through some photos in future when he is older…
We tried renting toys for the 1st time ever… For Kaden, a BBQ grill set to reward him for his behavior and to keep him “busy” during the school holiday... For Reyes, a jumperoo to allow him to jump up and down on his own, and of course to relieve the adults from having tired hands while holding him to jump up and down… We picked up the toys ourselves… The boys “kept” it for a month… And the rental company collected it a month later… Though not cheap, but at least we don’t get to keep the items, hence not issue on storage… Thumbs up, I will say…
Brought Reyes to the zoo for the 1st time also… Kaden said since March, he had not visited the zoo for very long time… so to utilize the zoo passes for the last time, off we went to the zoo again…
For myself, I bid farewell to all my good colleagues at the company whom I have been seconded to for the past 2.5 years… I learnt a lot during my span there and I also made some really good friends… it was a bitter sweet moment during my last day at work as I shook hands with my boss and my co-workers who I had worked with and built close relationship with during the past year… But of course, again… 天下没有不散的宴席..
Nov 2012
I reported back at work in HQ on 1st November… Glad to be back… Look forward to working with “new” colleagues and learning new things in the new year…
Reyes turns 6 months old on 9th Nov… Bought him a cake, or to be specific, a baby cake that is allergy free i.e. egg free, milk free, nut free etc… The cake looked beautiful but taste… YUCKS!!! Though I dun like it personally, we are happy that we can offer a little bit to our little Reyes since it is supposed to be baby friendly…
Daddy joined RC and went for his first RC meeting… Three claps for him who is willing to sacrifice himself for the future of his boys… Hopefully his sacrifice is worth it…
Celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary… Dear & I brought Kaden along to Taka for a breather. We had a pleasant surprise as Kaden & I caught our favorite characters Elmo & Cookie Monster… Looking forward to our 7th anniversary as Reyes will be joining us in the celebration…
Dec 2012
Reyes went on his 1st overseas trip with the family to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 5th to 8th Dec to visit his great grandma. We were initially worried about the flight, diet of the boys and their sleeping habits… All these worries were unfound for…
Flight : Reyes remained a very happy boy, jumping up and down on my lap and occasionally snatching food from me and Kaden… There are toddlers and babies crying on board but that did not affect Reyes at all. Kaden took his own seat and meals like a young adult… He even knew how to go through the menu and ordered for him a snack pack…When come to crying toddlers and babies, this little boy of mine even know how to tell me… “Mummy, why is he crying? It is so noisy!”… Isn’t this hilarious?
Diet : We brought the slow cooker and some ingredients along to cook porridge for Reyes. Reyes is a true blue porridge lover, just like Daddy and he finished every bit of it twice a day. Kaden eats whatever we eat, so totally not a problem. Bringing him for the trip is a breeze.
Sleeping habit : The boys really 去到那里, 睡到哪里. They even slept later than usual compared to if they were at home…
The trip was fruitful and good… Looking forward to our next holiday in 2013.
Kaden is officially toilet trained during the day… Throughout our KL holidays, he did not put on any diapers in the day, but only during bed time at night. 3 cheers for my boy. Hope I can toilet trained him for the night too.
We had our 1st family shoot at Fullerton. It was hot but windy… In the end, my hair was messy… And maybe Reyes was too young, unable to sit pretty straight and was not very focusing on the camera… In the end, the photos were pretty nice thought we can do better if the setting was indoor… Going to work out our sums to do an indoor photo shoot when the boys are older…
Reyes attended his 1st xmas party at our annual CLDDs xmas party… 7 kids… The boys are super happy with their take aways

Kaden attended a trial class at Seriously Fun and well demonstrated his flair at sports i.e. jumping, running, soccer, tennis… Though he had fun, the course fee is relatively expensive… Decided that we should engage Kaden in the jumping, running, soccer and tennis ourselves… KS mummy trying not to waste too much $$$!!!

2012 1st Half of Year Recapped
2012 just came and went…
We did lots of great things and achieved lots of mile stones… Here are some recaps of what happened during the 1st half of the year…
Jan 2012
Kaden embarked his pre-nursery journey at his new school… His 1st time ever… Taking school bus all by himself to and from the school. Though he cried a bit initially due to separation anxiety, but he soon loved the trip and even made friends with the school bus auntie.

We visited the zoo for the 1st time with our best couple pals, or should I say, best family pals now… The 3 kids had a rolling good time at the zoo. Daddy and Kaden even had their 1st elephant ride. Mummy with a big tummy is of course, spared from all the climbing.
We made another investment in property. Another source of income… 3 cheers for us… We loved the new place as it is comparable to our Atrina unit… Hmmm, will it be our retirement unit in future?
9th May 2012 marks a significant change in our life. From 3, we expanded into a family of 4. Welcome to our life, little Reyes. Looking forward to your growing journey, just like your kor kor Kaden.

Jun 2012
Happening month for the Lim Family…
On 2nd Jun, Kaden turns officially turns 3. We had a mini celebration for him at home. We invited our caterpillar uncle & his family, our best family pals and of course, the kids’ favorite, Auntie Bao. Kaden also had his favorite care bears cake from Pine Garden. With lots of presents from the entire uncle, auntie and jie jie and kor kor, Kaden is a very happy boy.
Since the birth of Reyes, we had tried to shower Kaden with a little more attention as we didn’t want him to feel left out. Compliments of Ah Yee, Kaden got a chance to build a bear. He had proudly named it “Kaden Bear” and even chose a basketball jersey for the bear.

In June, Reyes turned one month old. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, Reyes is supposed to turn one month old on 8th Jun. Hence, on that day, we engaged professionals to shave his head (just like Kaden). After which, we offered prayers to both family ancestors. On 10th Jun, we held a mini celebration for him at our condo’s function room, where we invited our relatives and our closest groups of friends, from CLDDs and ZHSS to join us in the joyous occasion.
We were a little more daring as 2nd time parents and so… we brought Reyes along with us and Kaden to help distribute the full month cakes to my mum as well as to Daddy’s friends in Orchard, Marine Parade and Suntec. Reyes also had his 1st outing with Mummy’s friends, the Sunshine Gang for the bday celebration at Pizitalia at East Coast. That was when we had our 1st family photo as 4.
Reyes also went on his 1st outdoor trip with both grandpas and grandmas. We celebrated Father’s Day at Canto-I at Ion Orchard. Thumbs up for the courage and efforts =D

We made another investment in property. Another source of income… 3 cheers for us… We loved the new place as it is comparable to our Atrina unit… Hmmm, will it be our retirement unit in future?
May 2012
9th May 2012 marks a significant change in our life. From 3, we expanded into a family of 4. Welcome to our life, little Reyes. Looking forward to your growing journey, just like your kor kor Kaden.
Kaden held his 1st ever birthday celebration in school on 21st May. It was 2 weeks earlier than his actual day to avoid the school holidays. Goodie bags were prepared way before hand and cupcakes were ordered for the event. I even sneaked out during my confinement period to attend the celebration in school.
Reyes also went on his 1st outdoor trip with both grandpas and grandmas. We celebrated Father’s Day at Canto-I at Ion Orchard. Thumbs up for the courage and efforts =D
