This is how my big bunny learnt his weekly spelling...

1st.. from an alphabet board... I did up an alphabet board for my big bunny after seeing one from a kindergarten in US online... The board contains 2 full sets of a to z, and 1 more set of vowels. I created the alphabets using microsoft offices, cut them out and laminated them. Afterwhich, I attached them to the board using velco, so that the letters can be "dismantled" to create words and "restoring" it back to original status after the learning activity is over.. Every week, to teach the big bunny spelling, I will make use of the board to teach him about phonics as well as word formation... As this is not the usual learning, memorizing and writing, big bunny's reaction to it is quite positive... Glad my effort to make the board paid off... His spelling had also improved alot since he first started to spell...

2nd... I also incorporated play into spelling... By making use of the alphabet mat I had, we did a jumping game to learn spelling... Basically, big bunny is supposed to jump to each letter and by doing that, he is spelling them... It was so fun that even little bunny joined us.. =)

Home Learning : Sequences of A B C

Did a "sequencing" game with the big bunny recently.... 

We made an A B C train out of a stack of A B C cards.... wanna find out if big bunny can put his A B C in place and recognising each alphabets instead of the normal textbook A B C where he only need to close his eyes and shout out A to Z...

He did well and could form a complete alphabets train... Well done... 

Little bunny also wanted to join in the fun, so I got him hooked up on 1 2 3 4...

Home Learning : Role Playing vs Coloring

Dear had some take away from McCafe the other night and Mummy decided to utilise the paper bag used to contain the cake...

Guessed what.. Now we had a masked man in the house... Presenting "McCafe Man" who is armed with 2 foam swords... (Too many avengers watching going round the house...)

Meanwhile, the little one is not so interested in getting his face masked up... Ended up doing some coloring activities to work on his gross motor skill...

Home Learning : Spelling l Letter F

Did some home learning activities one weekday night...

Learning to Spell...

Big bunny will start to have spelling test in Term 2... To prep him for it, I started teaching him how to spell...

Got this idea online... I did up a "Let's Learn to Spell" worksheet. There are 3 main areas in the worksheet... a "READ IT"  corner for Mummy to write the spelling word that big bunny is going to learn and for him to read it out loud... a "BUILD IT" corner for him to spell the words using magnetic alphabets... and lastly a "WRITE IT" corner for him to write the words 2 time, in upper capital form and lower capital form, and while he writes, he is supposed to practice spelling it and reading it loud...

So far, we had done 2 sessions of it.. and I must say he quite enjoyed doing it...

Home Learning : New Tool in The House

Recently, I bought a foldable table from Groupon... It was meant to serve as an extra table for the guests for events... But looked like the bunnies planned to make the full use out of it...

That night, on the day it arrived, it had instantly turned into our bunnies' home learning table due to its adjustable height...

I quite like the concept as the bunnies can take their place, one at each side of the table and the table was still big enough for mummy to place her teaching materials on it...

So happy to have bought this...

Home Learning : Body Parts (Round 2)

From the internet, I recently downloaded a body and skeleton template respectively. Still focusing on body parts theme, I cut out the puppet, laminated them and sew them together with thread and needle...

Ta da... movable body and skeleton puppet to teach the big bunny more about body parts...

Hard work which took quite a bit of time due to the sewing, but my bunny loved them so much.. **effort paid off**

We covered another theme during the weekday night... Body parts...

On a large piece of paper (from IKEA), I asked big bunny to lie down and then drew his body outline onto the paper. Big bunny was excited as that was his human body outline, so he wrote his name on it to take ownership. Then I printed out all the body parts sight words, both in English and Chinese, and laminated them. I put up the human body outline against his room door. Next, I got big bunny to place the sight words at the correct body parts.

Verdict : Big bunny can now named all the body parts in English and almost all, in Chinese as well. He can recognise simple sight words too like head, hair, eyes, mouth etc... Next up is for him to be familiar with almost all the words... and perhaps after looking at them many times, he can start to spell the words too...

Home Learning : Chinese New Year Theme

To let the bunnies know more about the upcoming Chinese New Year, I worked on some activities to do with them... which includes exercises to find out what are the things we normally do during CNY, the 12 animals zodiacs etc

Not sure if the bunnies had gained more knowledge about CNY but they sure do have fun in the activities...

To him, the rat doesn't come 1st... Ox comes 1st, follows by his dearest Mummy (Rooster) and his beloved didi (Dragon)... Daddy (snake) is normal, so he will be no 1, counting from the back... Ha ha ha...

Next up... creating a dragon in preparation for the dragon dance... Coloring the dragon in progress...

Learning World Flags

Together with other mummies in office, we bought this world flags board games online... Tried out the activity with big bunny... Turned out that I, myself could not identify flags of many countries.. Ke ke ke... Time to brush up on my knowledge...

I Can Spell !!!

Though I am a FTWM, I will try to spend some time to engage the bunnies in one activity or two after I knocked off from work... Since the beginning of the year, the big bunny had been learning how to write his name, both English and Chinese... Familiarise himself with all the 26 alphabets and learning the numbers 1 to 20... And working on some theme projects like knowing myself and my family, as well as body parts etc...

His Sat enrichment class at Teacher Bernard's is working with him on his phonics at the moment... At home, I started to teach the big bunny how to spell...  I am quite happy that he made some great progression recently... Proud mummy =D
